Have We Underestimated the Challenges With Automation? [Connected and Automated Vehicles]

چکیده

The research shows that over 90% of all accidents are due to human error. Automated vehicle technologies hold the promise decreasing number accidents. However, complex and usually there is a chain events leading up an accident. For example, take signalized intersection, where pedestrian enters crosswalk against red light when traffic turns green for vehicles. Vehicle A (across intersection) detects it drives slowly, crossing intersection. B behind changes lanes unprecedented low speed A, in new lane C coming with higher from cannot avoid hitting B. root cause this accident not following rules. unfortunate takes place this. many cases just like example. does know why driving slowly (e.g., could be faulty vehicle). When police arrive at scene, only will left, held responsible rear-end

Fleets Management Of Cooperative Connected Automated Vehicles In Manufacturing Processes

Industry 4.0 is a promising solution for the management of manufacturing processes, due to its potential to increase both energy saving and optimized production. Within this context, in this paper we propose the use of automated connected vehicles fleets for the autonomous handling of products among workstations in manufacturing processes. Numerical results confirm its effectiveness w.r.t a typ...

Have We Underestimated the Likelihood and Severity of Zero Lower Bound Events?

Before the recent recession, the consensus among researchers was that the zero lower bound (ZLB) probably would not pose a significant problem for monetary policy as long as a central bank aimed for an inflation rate of about 2 percent; some have even argued that an appreciably lower target inflation rate would pose no problems. This paper reexamines this consensus in the wake of the financial ...
